 Welcome to our App This Please meme! Here is where current players can make requests for who they'd like to see in the game, as well as where potential players can put up their own advertisements to get a feel for whether or not their character would fit in Santa Rosita. To participate, simply fill out the form that suits you best below. For information on our current player count, please check out the Taken page. NOTE: As talked about here, WSH is currently taking a game-wide hiatus from all plot-related activity and events until May. Originally, our plan was to have an app round at the end of May — however, after reevaluating our IRL schedules and where we are as a mod team, we've decided to change course a bit and press on with opening applications a month early at the end of April. This means reserves will be open on April 10th and applications will be open on April 20th. The calendar will be updated to reflect these changes. Please keep in mind that although April will be an app month, there will still be diminished mod activity and no events until May. We would also like to remind current players that March and April are still check-in months. This means you do not need to submit threads as proof of AC. To stay in the game, all you need to do is post a comment to your Activity thread informing us that, well, you're still here. |

CHARACTER: Historia Reiss
ABOUT THEM: Historia is a 15-year old Queen who's described herself as the "worst, most despicable girl in history." Why? That's because after spending her whole life as a passively suicidal girl constantly trying to sacrifice herself for others, Historia finally decided that she was going to live for herself - doing only what she wanted to do. She'd even sacrifice humanity's future if it meant that she could get what she wanted - for example, to save a dear friend who was convinced his life was worthless.
Luckily, what she wants is mostly benevolent - her goal in life is to teach everyone who feels worthless and like their lives have no meaning that they do have worth and value just being alive. She's opened up an orphanage for kids who have nowhere left to go, and is generally a kind and friendly person... however, she's willing to put her own desires over ideals of the "greater good" and what the "right" thing to do is.
(Of course, living life that way is easier said than done, especially when you come from a canon that's constantly forcing you to make cruel and impossible decisions... despite her resolution, Historia is a lot more conflicted than she seems!)
I'm super excited to see how she'd fit in at WSH!! I love horror and Historia comes from a pretty horror filled world, so she'll fit right in in that sense. And if your character has self-esteem issues then Historia will be nyooming over to teach your muse that yes, they ARE worth something, lol. She's also much stronger than she looks, having been trained in the military, so if you want a tiny blonde girl who can kick your ass then Historia is the muse for you!

I really love our AOT cast in the game - gestures with EXCITEMENT FOR ERWIN UP ABOVE, FOR EXAMPLE!! - and I've heard nothing but amazing things re: Historia from a friend of mine who does follow AOT but knows my brain is too cluttered with robots to retain information. So she only tells me the things that she LOVES and hearing about Historia a l o t really means something. I'd love to see you join us for the spooky stuff!!

CHARACTER: Kim Kitsuragi
ABOUT THEM: Kim is a lieutenant from a post-revolution society (similar to Earth but not exact) where the police are more an organized militia than a body with any real power. He is a man of dry wit, deductive investigation, and prides himself on being a killjoy who acts like the only sane man. Very much the 'straight-man' cop to the player character's chaotic amnesiac cop. He's very protective of his position, both in his career and his place in society as he is often labeled an outsider. His dark origin story is that he is a pinball champion who hates pinball.
I plan to tdm this weekend and will add a link when I get around to it! Until then, here is a funny image (source)

CHARACTER: Lauren Olamina
ABOUT THEM: LAUREN OYA OLAMINA is a precocious 16 year old from the far off future of... 2025 (this canon is from the 90s), in a version of the US where society has started to crumble in the face of catastrophic climate change, a devastating economic downturn, and violence resulting from escalating inequality (...this canon is from the 90s). In the future she'll become a cult leader who convinces humanity to colonize outer space thanks to some poems she wrote in her diary, but for now she's got a little more chill. She's used to living in a nice suburban cul-de-sac in California (where it's only safe to leave the neighborhood walls in large armed groups) but she's a hardcore prepper convinced that the neighborhood's days are numbered. She also has a psychosomatic disorder that causes her to physically experience the pain that (she thinks) she sees other people experience. This is pretty shitty to deal with when she's always writing journal entries like "we found another half-eaten human body today when we went out for target practice."
Lauren's entire shtick is adaptability (she literally creates a religion centered around change and the need to evolve with it) so I'm really interested in seeing how she learns to roll with the punches that come from a spooky horror jamjar! I'm particularly interested in the conformity aspect of the setting; because of her hyperempathy (what she calls her 'sharing,' also known as 'the shittiest type of power') she's used to having to keep her head down and not make a scene, but she's also used to doing that in her own time and own context! In some ways, she's used to a 1950s level of technology, while at the same time the abundance of resources and the social norms are totally foreign to her. It's a different type of danger and different type of responsibilities to face here. Her future religion, which she calls Earthseed, is built out of parables and truths she comes across in her life through the challenges she faces, so I also think it'd be cool to see how Santa Rosita influences how it develops! At her current canonpoint, she's very quiet about the religion that she's inventing (hashtag Baptist preacher's daughter problems) and oocly I don't want to be like, hey look, here's my RP character proselytizing, but at the same time if anyone's interested on an ooc level... well, she's not likely going to get in trouble with her father if she preaches some #truths to a bunch of weirdos from other universes, right?
Annnd finally, she'll realize that it weirds her out to not constantly soak up other people's pain all the time. Then she'll regain her ability and be like, oh, right, this was always terrible and it's even worse here. Womp womp.
I'm hoping to get a toplevel up and tag around the TDM this weekend! Am I mostly posting here to see if anyone wants to shout about Octavia Butler with me? Yes.

CHARACTER: Crystal Exarch
ABOUT THEM: Well... he's a tired old tiny grandpa, who's much older than he looks. Despite being the de-facto leader of a large city, he's not inclined to talk much about himself - where he came from, what he wants, exactly how old he is, what his name is and even what he looks like under his cowl are all mysteries! However, secrets aside, he's generally a calm, kind, well-meaning person. Stubborn and fiercely opinionated, and deep inside there hides a nerdy historian bookworm yearning to break free, but on the whole a pleasant person. He's been working for a hundred years to save the world, and he's going to save it!
I'd take him from between Stormblood and Shadowbringers, so he'll be in full trying-to-be-mysterious mode and will be a bit put out by his actual name appearing when he's not heard it for a century. But then, he will also be a bit put out by having his cowl taken off him to reveal his fluffy- wait.
Obviously he will prioritise getting home because he needs to finish the whole save-the-world thing, but he's hardly going to ignore it when people need him. He will attempt to involve himself as much as he can.

Potential Player
CHARACTER: Long John Silver
ABOUT THEM: Silver's the iconic character from Treasure Island, just a fair bit younger. From the 1700s, he's charismatic, opportunistic, and an incredibly silver-tongued Pirate King. He's also an incredibly cynical and broken man who's only recently realized he cares about other people and who has a ton of trust and abandonment issues. He's elusive at his best and manipulative at his worst, but if you manage to make a friend in him he makes sure he's invaluable. He's perfect for picking apart characters, especially if they're the type to hide a lot of who they are, and he's absolutely not above using other people as means to an end for what he views as right or what he believes he needs when push comes to shove. He's the kind of guy who takes stock of how people tick and why because it might help him later--he tends not to do anything unless it's self-preservation though!
He's extremely adaptable and I'm curious to see how he'll fare in the 50s, especially since this is far more of a team thing than he's used to and while Black Sails has its share of messy shit, it's not outright horror. He's got an insane level of self loathing despite coming across as a generally warm and confident sort of guy, so it'll be interesting to play those out as well as dealing with an extremely regulated society when he's used to the golden age of piracy and the lawlessness it lends itself to.
I had to take a bit of an rp break, but I'm ready to continue to play around on his TL at the TDM if anyone else is!

CHARACTER: Ellen Ripley!
ABOUT THEM: Ellen Ripley is the sole survivor of the USS Nostromo--a freighter spaceship that was going through the motions of traveling from one end of the galaxy to the other when its crew was awoken by a distress signal coming from an unexplored planet. After one of the crew members was attacked by an alien organism and had it attach itself to his face, Ripley was adamant about not letting the creature onto the ship, per quarantine rules.
Needless to say, the quarantine was broken by an android placed there to further the corporation's own interests, and everyone on the ship died, save for Ripley. From these experiences, she's learned to adapt and keep cool during a crisis--though she's still deeply traumatized, because corporations won't quit trying to use xenomorphs as assets despite the fact that they keep killing people. Very cool, Weyland-Yutani, thank you.
I'm going to be putting up a TDM toplevel sometime in the future!! But if she gets in she's going to hate Santa Rosita with her whole life.

Would u consider Jonesy an important regain... would u...I'll definitely keep an eye out for Ripley's toplevel in the future because oh my goooosh - I really think Ripley being in the game would be so cool. From claustrophobic and empty space to still-claustrophobic but busy Santa Rosita, Ripley being in the game would be super interesting.
Please join the other characters hating the fact they're in Santa Rosita with their whole loves, Ripley! You will not be alone and there might be enough sci-fi folks to talk about xenomorph and also go, 'Oh wow that's messed up. Fuck Weyland-Yutani.'

CHARACTER: Violet
ABOUT THEM: First impressions worst impressions, am I right? Vi's not shy. She's just maladjusted, sarcastic, occasionally rude, and more than a little traumatized. An alcoholic upbringing and zombie apocalypse will do that to a girl. Don't expect a load of poor me stories, though. Not much can break through this veneer of sarcasm and inappropriate humor to the tender insides. She's always up for a card game or a round of Truth or Dare as an ice breaker and when needed, a meat cleaver to break other things.
Violet will be 100% conflicted about adhering to 1960s social norms as she fits them very little, both as an independent and headstrong 19 year old woman and a lesbian, versus having electricity, hot water, and regular meals. She probably doesn't break a hundred pounds soaking wet and barely tops 5'2". She's pretty sure whatever this place can throw at her, she has seen worse. (She's also probably wrong, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Considering she can open up with a little coaxing and is a good, loyal friend once she does, I'd love to see her figuring out who to trust and what to do about it, especially during the times things seem more "normal." She's also best with people who can give as good as they get with the teasing.

CHARACTER: Natsuhi Ushiromiya
ABOUT THEM: I make no promises because as you can see from my journal. I'm still setting up.
Natsuhi here is a 47 year old housewife from the dysfunctional Ushiromiya family. She is stress incarnate because of the amount of things she has to deal with. But despite having a very short temper there is a nice person there, somewhere..... She's just used to being bullied and having every flaw being rubbed in her face that she snaps at the slightest hint of things going bad.
In terms of possible plans, I don't have much. In series Natsuhi is a part of her daughter's PTA and from the 1980s, so she'd probably blend in with the NPCs.
I'd kinda like to arrange her housemates and fake fam before apping if I do. Just because, she's already married and has at least one kid already (Still undecided on canon point) so feels pretty important to get that stuff out the way first.
